An insider look into the

Beauty & Wellness Industry

Interested to join the beauty and wellness industry in Singapore?

Here's a peek into the sector.
If you have been keen to join the beauty and wellness industry, you're in luck. Other than the usual beautician roles that first come to mind, the diverse beauty industry in Singapore offers fulfilling careers with training opportunities in customer service roles including therapists, retail, marketing, sales and more.
Impact of COVID-19
The beauty and wellness industry was not spared by the pandemic, especially when businesses were ordered to shut during Circuit Breaker in early 2020. As the COVID-19 situation steadily improves, with strict safety measures put in place, consumer confidence is predicted to rise.
Job trends with the advancement of technology
The beauty and wellness industry has traditionally been known for its technicians such as aestheticians, spa masseuses, hairstylists, etc. Strong customer service skillsets are at the heart of these roles. As the sector advanced with the introduction of technology and innovation in equipment used, there has been a greater demand for beauty therapist jobs that require specialized knowledge, in order to administer treatment and manage operational responsibilities (SWAS | Spa and Wellness Association Singapore, 2021.)

Career Roadmap
The Beauty Services Competency Framework (BSCF) is an industry-led framework supported by Enterprise Singapore and SkillsFuture Singapore, that provides a roadmap for roles and career paths across the beauty aesthetics, hair, makeup, nails, spa and wellness verticals in the beauty and wellness industry in Singapore.

"One of the biggest personal struggles I faced joining the industry is self doubt, especially when there are so many talented artists out there, but personal belief has kept me grounded and helped resolve those doubts.
My advice for those looking to join the industry: Be fearless, and not let the need for certifications deter yourself from learning as beauty and makeup is a form of art and expression. If you have passion for the craft, take charge of your learning with resources like basic online courses."

"In contrast to popular belief that makeup artists and trainers have a simple job, it actually requires perseverance. We're usually standing for hours at a stretch, and always having to maintain a smile regardless of how tough the day may go.
