Overcoming hurdles with a growth mindset
Amanda Yip, 53, smiles in the face of adversity and welcomes the challenge of learning
Amanda had never been a fan of anything digital and had procrastinated on upgrading her digital know-how for the longest time. Fueled by the COVID-19 lockdown that saw the world shift towards digital means, it became clear that workplaces could no longer thrive without pivoting through digital innovations. More importantly, Amanda knew she could no longer survive without embracing digital transformation herself.

Working in marketing for a company in the healthcare industry, Amanda took up a Specialist Diploma in Digital Marketing with the help of the SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy. She never thought that she would meet such arduous challenges. Amanda spent numerous late nights trolling the web for answers for a better grasp on the subject, equipping herself with the skills required to ease into the digital transformation her organization is currently embarking on.

"My learning curve was very steep, especially so for a digital dinosaur like myself. But believing that anyone can learn if you put your mind to it was the key to adapting and pushing ahead." Amanda's beliefs help her to learn, adapt, and grow in her journey of learning despite the hurdles she faces.

"Go for it and don't look back," is Amanda's advice for anyone challenging themselves to learn a new skill. "In the adventure that is life, there will always be obstacles in our way of achieving what we set out to achieve. But my attitude towards life always drives me to enjoy the challenges instead of fearing it."
